Ashbery’s Angst

A couple of days ago, Bob, the creative director of our advertising department, left on my desk a photocopy of a lengthy article from the New Yorker (November 2005) about the 78-year-old poet John Ashbery. I confessed that the only thing I’ve read about this figure is his name, but even so I was touched by Bob’s gesture and impressed by his genuine enthusiasm for all things related to poetry. It was a very interesting read, because the writer, named Larissa MacFarquhar, was able to get into the poet’s mind itself….
